WinCC V7 to Ignition Perspective with AI, code tested in simulation

An AI assistant inside the engineering workstation reads an old WinCC V7 project, drafts the Ignition screen and tests PLC code in simulation before anything reaches a plant.

Short answer

Our Engineering Assistant works inside the engineering tools through our own connectors. In this demonstration on a fictional project it scans a legacy WinCC V7 project read-only, converts one screen into an Ignition Perspective view bound to UDTs, and compiles and tests an S7-1500 SCL block in S7-PLCSIM Advanced. An engineer reviews every result. For the tags themselves, our free Siemens to Ignition tag converter does the address mapping.

Demonstration on a fictional plant. All data shown is illustrative. No sound; on-screen text explains each step.

The situation

A plant runs WinCC V7 on ageing Windows machines and wants to move to Ignition. The old project has hundreds of screens and thousands of tags, little documentation, and the people who built it have moved on. Reading it by hand is slow.

What the AI does

  • Scans the WinCC V7 project read-only: tags, structure types, screens, scripts, alarms
  • Drafts the mapping from WinCC structures to Ignition UDTs
  • Converts a screen into an Ignition Perspective view bound to those UDTs, on a development gateway
  • Compiles an S7-1500 SCL block in TIA Portal and tests it step by step in S7-PLCSIM Advanced
  • Lists what it could not convert, so nothing is silently lost

What people do

Engineers decide the target design, review and finish every screen, test against the real controllers in read-only mode and plan the cutover with the old system as a fallback.

What this changes

  • The inventory of the old system takes a fraction of the manual effort
  • Repetitive screens are drafted, so engineers spend time on design and testing
  • PLC changes are tested in simulation before they reach a controller

Try it on your plant

We test this on one of your lines in an AI pilot: read-only data, a test system and success criteria agreed up front.

Questions we get

Is this an automatic converter?

No. A migration is re-engineering. The AI reads, drafts and tests; engineers design, review and finish.

What about the tags?

Our free Siemens to Ignition tag converter maps TIA Portal and STEP 7 tag lists to Ignition. For a full WinCC migration we use our AI toolkit.
