Line trip: the first cause among six alarms
A line trips and six alarms arrive within seconds. The AI assistant points to the one that started it and guides the operator back to production.
When a line trips, the first alarm is the cause and the others are usually follow-up stops. Our Operator Assistant reads the alarm history from the SCADA, orders the alarms in time, names the first cause, explains it in plain language and guides the operator through the matching procedure. It also answers questions in the operator's own language and drafts the shift handover. This page shows it in a demonstration on a fictional plant.

The situation
A production line stops. Within seconds the alarm list fills with six alarms: the real cause and the stops it triggered further down the line. The operator has to find the starting point fast, often at night and without an engineer nearby.
What the AI does
- Reads the alarm history and selected tags from the SCADA, read-only
- Orders the alarms in time and names the first cause: here, a conveyor motor overload
- Explains the cause and lists the steps to restart, from the plant's own procedure
- Answers a follow-up question about a dryer alarm in Dutch
- Drafts the shift handover from alarms, stops and setpoint changes
What people do
The operator decides and acts. The assistant never writes to the PLC or the SCADA; it reads, explains and prepares. The shift leader checks and sends the handover.
What this changes
- The search for the first cause no longer depends on who is on shift
- Procedures are followed step by step instead of from memory
- Handover notes are complete and consistent between shifts
Try it on your plant
We test this on one of your lines in an AI pilot: read-only data, a test system and success criteria agreed up front.
Questions we get
Does this work with our SCADA?
It needs read access to the alarm history and selected tags. We specialise in Ignition and WinCC and connect other systems where a project needs it.
Can it get the first cause wrong?
It can, for example when alarm time stamps are not accurate. It shows the alarm sequence it used, so the operator can check, and we review alarm quality during the pilot.
